grand 2

It was a night of stunning physie on Wednesday night as ladies from all over the country competed at the National Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Every lady who competed should consider themselves a champion not only for placing in their regional zone and qualifying for Nationals but for performing for an audience of over 1,000 people. The standard was extremely high with a beautiful display of strength, control, grace and expression. The 2014 ladies Grand Champion was Belinda Webb from Queensland, who was presented with a new perpetual trophy by Robyn Herbert, daughter of Judy Spence.

The trophy is the Memorial Judy Spence Trophy for Ladies Grand Champion, introduced this year to honour Judy, who loved Ladies Nationals night more than any other competition, because she said it “showed how ladies can continue to do physie all their lives and be involved in the sport”.  At BJP we hope that the trophy will celebrate Judy’s legacy of finding the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
