1- Listen
The better you listen to your body, the better you will learn to stretch. Know your limits and how far to push yourself.
2- Align
Aligning your bones with their joints will allow for optimal use of your muscles and prevent any unnecessary tension.
3- Go Slowly
Going slowly will ensure that you avoid overstretching which can easily occur when you rush into a stretch. It also allows you the chance to listen to your body and feel where your limits are.
4- Work Within Your Limits
When you stretch within you limits you will find you can stretch for a longer period of time and allow you to get a whole lot more out of it.
5- Engage
Always, always, always engage your muscles to keep your body stable. When you engage your muscles it compresses the muscle fibres so that the muscle becomes shorter, which reduces the risk of unsafe stretching.
6- Have fun!
Safe stretching is a big part of feeling comfortable and enjoying your stretching routine. You should feel amazing once you are done and ready to take on your day or get started with your Physie class!
7 – Knowledge
Knowledge about safe stretching is important to ensure that you are doing what is best for your body.
