Nikki Verrills has been doing physie for 36 years and suddenly found it has all paid off!!
Nikki is a cancer researcher in Newcastle who’s dedicated her life to finding a cure for the future. So, when Nikki was invited to be part of the Cancer Council’s Stars of Newcastle – Dance for Cancer gala event (like ‘Dancing With The Stars’), she decided it was time to step out of her comfort zone!
She says, “10 weeks ago each community ‘star’ was issued a dance style along with a professional instructor to put us through our paces and learn a routine to perform. We are now competing on stage in front of a packed house at Wests Leagues Club 1st May – TOMORROW! – for a one-night only performance! My genre is Jazz and, while the routine is fast-paced, dynamic and extremely energetic, my physie background has meant that I feel (almost) at ease in the ‘dance world’ and I know that all of my physie experience will come to the fore when I step out on that stage. It will also help knowing that my wonderful physie teacher Mandy and 30 of the Warners Bay physie ladies and seniors will be there to support me! So I wanted to say thank-you to physie for giving me the confidence to be able to do this, and for being such a huge part of my life for so many years.”
If anyone would like to donate to the cause they can do so by sponsoring Nikki via her online donation site:
