Last week Mermaid Beach Physie held their annual Juniors Showcase with 95 girls performing between the ages of 3 and 16 years.
Teacher Alison said “The girls had a blast and I’ve received so many lovely emails and comments from parents. The fun that the girls have at physie is what they remember at the end of the year and the Showcase is always a highlight!”
The Showcase is held each May because that’s a great time of year when the syllabus is finished and the girls are all eagerly awaiting the DVD.
It gives them a performance to look forward to in Term 2 and those who are unsure about comps often come away convinced of the benefits. The new 5-8 years especially show a lot of interest in the comps after the Showcase – it’s so much fun, how could they not!
It’s also a great way to showcase what physie is to new parents and, with many parents working afternoons and unable to make regular classes, they love the opportunity to see what their daughter has been learning.
The teacher performs the work in the audience aisle for the 3-8’s to follow so they are comfortable in what is many girls’ first ever physie performance.
As most performers don’t have their BJP competition leotards yet, a theme is set for each age group that is something they have in their cupboard at home. This year it was princesses and fairies, red and white, fluro colours and cheerleaders – a different theme for each class, which the girls loved, as you can see from the photos.
It’s great when dancing and performing doesn’t have to cost a fortune and a Physie Showcase is the perfect opportunity in that regard. Click on any photo to launch the ‘gallery’ and see more photos.
