More and more ladies are taking to the dancefloor to join their daughters in their favourite sport – Physie!
Last weekend North Pointe club hosted their first interclub in Brisbane and had 9 brand new ladies compete in the Beginner section.
For teacher Ainsley, watching them march out with such pride in themselves was the most emotional moment in her 22 years of Physie.
She says, “It started with one person saying they would compete ‘if they could go last’ and turned into every single beginner gracing the floor. They had all signed up to Physie for ‘fun’ at the beginning of the year, and some hadn’t danced for over 40 years, but they’re now saying they want to compete in Champion Lady! Physie doesn’t just bring women together, create friendships and build confidence. It allows them to celebrate their own abilities.”
Melina is one of the happy competitors who posted this:
“So I did a thing today.
My girls have done Physie for years and, although it was “their thing”, I have been doing lessons for a few years now. This year, our amazing club held its first interclub and, with a small bit of bribery, a stern high-school-teacher chat and an “I will if you will”, I agreed to compete.
There had been tears and self-doubt, but I finally got up there. And I came 4th!!! I competed with 13 beautiful women and all did so amazing. It was scary as all crap but I did it. We need to push past the limits we put on ourselves to show our kids it’s okay to step outside our comfort zone.”
BJP salutes all the amazing women who have the courage to be such strong and positive role models for Physie girls everywhere. You rock!
Why do we love to dance?
Physie is often described as people's "happy place" and is a time to forget everything else that is
