“The nice thing about teamwork is that you always have people on your side.” Margaret Carty
For girls growing up today it’s more important than every to belong and to feel like they fit in. Belonging is fundamental to wellbeing. Happiness is linked to feeling like we share common interests and belong to a greater community. Our collective identity helps define who we are. If it didn’t, there would be no such thing as club colours.
Why are we such social animals? Psychologists have been studying that for over a century and, according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the need to belong is third on the list after things like safety and food.
When a physie girl belongs to a team it boosts her self-esteem and she feels valued. She can be loyal to her team and her club they are loyal to her. In a team she may be able to achieve things she could never achieve on her own. Being in a team can provide a rare opportunity for a life success. Remember that many a winning team is made up of 8 girls who don’t win zone competitions or make national finals. It’s made up of 8 girls who are loyal to each other and can work together.
“It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.” Unknown
