Have you ever wondered what a Physie Champion gets up to in the off season? What does a physie girl do when she doesn’t have her weekly class to attend?! Here is a glimpse of what Lauren Perry, the 2019 Open Senior 21-22 year champion, has been doing in her time off.
What makes physie so special for you?
Physie is my outlet, it’s my go to after a stressful or big day. It has always been my happy place where I can let go, get lost in the music and get a little creative.
How has physie moulded you as a person?
Physie has given me so many valuable life skills such as confidence, team skills, the ability to take on criticism in a constructive way as well as the desire to pursue goals. The skills I’ve gained through physie help me so much both on and off the competition floor.
If you could go back in time, what advice and lessons learned would you have given to your “younger self”?
I would tell my younger self to believe in herself more. Know that you’re capable of anything that you set your mind to and your time will come if you continue to listen and work hard. Oh, and to stretch throughout the holidays… I make the same mistake every year!!!
What do you like to do in the physie break?
Throughout the break I love to spend time with my family and friends going to the movies, lunch or cafes and finding a new tv or podcast series.
What’s your favourite hobby or something that people might not know about you?
I have a taken a huge liking to puzzles, they keep me calm and relaxed.
How do you keep fit, healthy and flexible over the break so that you’re ready for the new year?
I like to take walks around the river with my dog, and take myself to the gym or CrossFit a few times a week. Nothing too over the top in the off season, as the body deserves a break as much as the mind does.
Do you have a favourite personal quote you either heard or have made yourself?
My favourite quote comes from one of my favourite people Evelyn Birchnoff, “dream, believe, achieve”. Always have a dream no matter how scary or out of reach it may seem. If you believe in yourself and that dream wholeheartedly, you will achieve great things.
