Have you ever wondered what a Physie Champion gets up to in the off season? What does a physie girl do when she doesn’t have her weekly class to attend?! Here is a glimpse of what Ashleigh Hampson, the NSW Open Senior 25-27 year and State champion, has been doing in her time off.

What makes physie so special for you?
Physie has always been special for me as it has been something I have done with my Mum and sister. Every time I perform – I always have a moment where I think how lucky we are that we have this opportunity.

How has physie moulded you as a person?
Physie has given me confidence and helped me believe I can any achieve goal that I set. This has been especially important through my University studies and more recently my career.

If you could go back in time, what advice and lessons learned would you had given to your “younger self”?
I would love to be able to go back in time and tell myself that dreams and goals can only be achieved with hard work, persistence and resilience. I would love to be able to tell her not compare the pace of her journey to everyone else.

What do you like to do in the physie break?
I love to spend the physie break with my family and friends.

What’s your favourite hobby or something that people might not know about you?
Something that people might not know is that I have a 2 year old son who inspires me daily.
I also work in healthcare and I’m currently studying a Masters of Health Service Management.

How do you keep fit, healthy and flexible over the break so that you’re ready for the new year?
I try to invest in all aspects of my health, including giving myself some downtime over the Christmas period and enjoying time with my family. As well, I love to do all sorts of exercise to keep myself fit – especially anything that my son can participate in with me.

Do you have a favourite personal quote you either heard or have made yourself?
“Just keep swimming”
