‘Orana’ is the region which includes Dubbo and surrounds, and is said to mean “welcome” in an Aboriginal language. So it was a quick and easy decision when finding a name to fit with our new club.

We had a vision of creating a club to relive the childhood memories of Physie with our daughters, that we had experienced and loved with our own mums. So together with the support from our husbands, partners, families and committee, we put our plans to paper and created OranaPhysical Culture in 2018. We were blown away with the response from girls and ladies wanting to try Physie and still pinch ourselves saying “we actually did it!”
We had hoped to make it to 30 members in 2018, and now in 2019 have just reached 101 members.

A little about me…
I’ve been a physie girl since I was 5. I started with Condobolin Physical Culture, where I progressed to teaching the Pre-schoolers and Junior classes as a teenager.
After school I had moved to Orange for study and then onto Sydney to be with my now husband. It didn’t matter where I was, I always found a physie club to join. And now living in Dubbo, I’m back where it all began for me and now my daughters physie, in the Central Western Zone.

There’s an amazing vibe around physie girls, and I love being a part of that each week. As a teacher, watching the girls grow in confidence and earn your trust is so rewarding each week. As a physie member, I love the annual challenge of a new syllabus and sharing my passion with other physie ladies. And as a physie mum, I’m enjoying watching my daughter as she forms new friendships and idolises the older girls, just like I did.
