This year’s Teachers Conference was held at the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise, the first time it’s been held in Queensland since 1984! There were around 30 delegates from Qld clubs and another hundred from NSW, ACT and VIC. It was a full weekend with the theme of “Working Together”. First up on Saturday the delegates worked in groups on The Great Race where they had to work as a team to complete a series of tasks (some of them not easy!) in a race against the clock and each other. There were also technique workshops on Accuracy & Positions, Control & Posture, Footwork & Turnout, Timing & Expression and Voice & Presence. Guest presenters spoke on Club retention and reputation, Personality types and how to work with different people, Gen Z and Mindfulness. There were group-work sessions on solving problems of all kinds and, to top it off, a fancy-dress dinner where everyone went all out to win the prize for most original costume. It was a weekend of sharing, talking, problem solving, networking and just being one big happy family of teachers, all with one mission in mind – to empower girls for life!
