“It was one the best experiences I’ve had in 47 years of Physie involvement… worth every second of planning, preparation and sleeplessness.” That’s what teacher Cheryl from Hinchinbrook said after their recent Physie Camp.
52 eager young physie girls and ladies spent the weekend in Wollongong bonding and learning to look at physie differently on their first camp adventure. Technology was banned for the weekend and some were worried how they would survive without it!! But survive they did…
When Saturday morning dawned the excited campers were bouncing and the first thing on everyone’s mind was a swim!
Throughout the day a series of workshops were run by the club’s four Junior Associates, interspersed with free time and lots of yummy food. Workshops covered many physie-related skills, including stretching, positions and shape work and a variety of performance and teamwork skills.
Everyone enjoyed the games night while the adult supervisors from the Ladies class conducted their own impromptu physie lesson! Not only did all the participants have tremendous fun learning, but they all made new friends in and out of the usual age group.
Cheryl says “For some children it was their first camp ever and for a couple of little ones it was the first night that they had ever slept away from home. Their parents put a huge trust in us! It was so heartwarming to watch my fabulous ladies and seniors care for everyone and to see older children helping younger ones. My Junior Associates ran the planned workshops with skill and confidence. It was great to see the next generation grab an opportunity and present valuable and active teaching that the members said they loved.”
Here are some of them spelling out the name of the club.
When the parents returned on Sunday morning, everyone was surprised to see one little girl run crying to her mother… She was sobbing because she didn’t want to go home! I think we could safely call it a success…

Whatever your stretching goal, you must be warm before you stretch. Stretching doesn’t make you warm, movement does
