I can’t believe it was five years ago that Champion Girls screened on the ABC for International Women’s Day, 2020.
It was in a time pre-performance wear and fishnets were still a thing! And although so much in the world has changed, Physie is still just – there. It’s a place we can rely on, it anchors us in a storm, we feel safe yet challenged, unique yet part of a team.
This was the community that welcomed our film crew (who knew absolutely nothing about Physie), supported us, and let us hang around for years. We knew we were capturing something special that we needed to share with the world.
Now, to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, Champion Girls will be available to stream for free – to enjoy for the first time, or all over again! The link will be live for two weeks from the 7th – 21st March from the BJP website.
The making of this documentary feels like yesterday. I guess that’s because I joined Physie during shooting and I never left, so Physie is part of my life. My daughter and I love going to class each week. She now has her sights on the Opera House stage and I would just like to remember what count 1 is…
Here’s to putting your left foot forward,
