My life as a physie lady in 5 words is… commitment, hard-work, determination, fun and friendships.
My earliest physie memory was… doing physie right next to my sister at 18 months old. Ok.. I don’t really remember that but I started physie practically on top of my sister and continued for 22 years. I then had a 20 year break and came back to physie in 2020.
My favourite physie moment was… winning National Novice Lady. I had always dreamed of holding a silver cup and was grateful to be able to win one last year. Having Covid finish a week before nationals I was nervous about whether I would be able to compete or not. What a challenging year and a difficult welcome back to Physie.
I am inspired by… everyone! I get inspiration from previous teachers, my team-mates, people in my club and my daughter who started physie as a 5 year old this year. The smile on her face when she’s practicing and competing reminds me constantly why I do this sport (and to remember my own physie face).
When I’m not doing physie I’m…. running a gym with hubby and chasing after our 2 kids. I love going to the beach, camping and having dinner with friends.
My favourite routine is… I love all of them. It’s hard to pick just one. I have a soft spot for the Advanced (reminds me of doing the Impulse when I was a senior). I also love the strength of exercises and it’s fun to have the dance back this year.
My favourite thing about performing is… after putting the hard work in all year, to go out on the floor and perform it. When I hear the music begin and do that first march out on the diagonal – you can’t beat that feeling!
To prepare for a physie comp… I try and do some pilates the day before. I like to visualise performing the routine and I listen to some meditations to calm my nerves.
I’m looking forward to… comp season. I love getting ready for comps. Going to girls’ weekends away for a physie comps and teams in Sydney, which I haven’t done as a lady yet. The fun of getting hair and make-up done and choosing what you’re going to wear.
Competition Excitement!
