It’s official!! It’s the most exciting news this year and we can finally tell you about it…! The State Library of NSW will be launching an exhibition of Physie photographs by Lyndal Irons on 27th June. The exhibition runs until 4th October in the Exhibition Galleries and includes photos taken by Lyndal during the 2012 BJP competition season. The photos tell the whole physie story from preparation to performance, competition to camaraderie and jitters to joy – an amazing cross-section of shots show girls and women of all ages taking part in the BJP physie experience.
There will also be a multimedia installation which will include both contemporary and historical photographs of BJP dating back as far as 1910, many taken by renowned Sydney photographer Sam Hood.
If you can’t make it to Sydney to see the exhibition, don’t worry you will be able to view it on-line. The exhibition is currently listed as a future exhibition on the library’s website – go to www.sl.nsw.gov.au/events/exhibitions/future to read about it.
It’s so fantastic to see physie recognized by such a prestigious institution as SLNSW. We’re so grateful to Lyndal Irons for spending those months with us all back in 2012, snapping away thousands of photos at the competitions. It will be exciting to see them hanging in the exhibition! We’ll keep you posted about what’s happening for the opening…
