Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre didn’t know what hit it yesteray when 1,870 children competed in the annual Junior Teams event.  There were 122 teams in the 5-8 years and 112 teams in the 9-12 years from NSW, ACT and VIC.  There were lots of happy faces out dancing on the floor and an amazingly small amount of chaos backstage even with all those hundreds of physie girls waiting for their turn to perform.

Thanks must go to the 156 teachers and their helpers who looked after the girls so well backstage! Big thanks also to the helpers who ran the judges’s results down to the admin desk. Here’s some shots from the day …

With so many teams there’s a lot of time to wait backstage so the teachers bring all sorts of things to amuse the kids – colouring in, game boys, bears and games.  And then there’s the photography session – with Adrian from Grundig Photography stalwartly taking every single team’s photograph and doing a great job capturing the smiles.

By the end of the day, the teachers have walked about a hundred miles but still manage a smile of pride for their girls and a group hug when they come off the floor. The challenge cups were won by the following clubs:

5-6 years

A Grade – St Lukes (in Revesby)

B Grade – Liverpool

7-8 years

A Grade – North Ryde

B Grade – Club 2000 (Seven Hills)

9-10 years

A Grade – Randwick

B Grade – Mortdale

11-12 years

A Grade – Brisbane Water United

B Grade – The Peninsula (Warriewood)

What a fantastic day! Congratulations all competitors, thanks to all the parents for their support and especially to our amazing teachers. See you all again next year!!
