The position called “neck rest” is 116 years old. Here’s a photo of some young boys at The Friends’ School in Hobart doing neck rest as part of their school physical training with Christian Bjelke-Petersen when he was a young man himself. The second photo was taken in 1910 in the Melbourne Town Hall. The first is in the Sydney gymnasium in the 1930s – the competition timetable can be seen handwritten on the portable chalkboards.
