Have you ever wondered what a Physie Champion gets up to in the off season? What does a physie girl do when she doesn’t have her weekly class to attend?! Here is a glimpse of what Rachael Vella, the 2018 Open Senior 19-20 Champion, has been doing in her time off over the holiday period.
What do you like to do in the physie break?
In the physie break, I love to relax with friends on the weekends at the beach, with my favourite spot being Gordans Bay.
What is something that people might not know about you?
I work full time at one of the finest Construction Companies in Australia as part of their Cadet/Graduate program whilst also studying full time completing the Bachelor of ‘Construction Project Management and Property’ at UNSW. Even though this field of work is male dominated, I love construction management and the opportunities this industry provides me with.
How do you keep fit, healthy and flexible over the break so that you’re ready for the new year?
I go for runs and long walks with friends, and I like to do shadow-boxing. To keep my mind and body fit and healthy, I like to attend Yoga classes.
Do you have a favourite personal quote you either heard or have made yourself?
“Perform to the person sitting right at the back in the last row”. This is not so much a quote but unteachable knowledge handed down from Isabel Bugden to her daughter Shelley and my coach, Rachelle Adams. If you can get the furthest person from you to feel something and engage them in your work, then you are not simply dancing a routine but performing from within.
