Wynsomme Sanderson is no ordinary lady! At 82 years young she still competes in Physical Culture competitions. Last Sunday her team won 5th place at the national team competition for ladies over 60 years of age. We asked her to tell us her story…
“I was born in 1933 and first commenced Physie at Strathfield Club with Lauren Grant. It was the year that ladies teams were first introduced to BJP. I then joined Lidcombe Berala until 1980 then joined Pennant Hills Club with Denise Hanley in 1981.

When I first started physie, not having done it before, I found it hard to learn to “march” and do “corners”. But I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of learning and perfecting a new syllabus each year, keeping my mind and body active. My favourite day on the Physie calender is the Ladies Master’s Day where I can catch up with all the wonderful friends I have made over the years.
The last few years I have only wanted to drill at the back of the class (and not be in a team) but it never seems to happen!! So I was back last Sunday at Homebush in an Over 60 year team with my daughter and it was a lovely day.
When I’m not doing Physie, I volunteer as a Justice of the Peace 3 times a week and I belong to a View Club and Craft Club.”
