Last Friday night, a celebration dinner was held for Betty Graham’s 90th birthday. Betty became a BJP Associate in 1951 and taught various Physie clubs for over 60 years. She taught Associates at the inaugural Parramatta teachers’ class, seeding the growth of Physie in the western districts of Sydney. She was a choreographer of syllabus, many BJP Centenary items and the ‘Ballarat Squad’ items in the Entertainment Section of the South Street Competitions in Ballarat. Betty is passionate about teacher education and introduced the Teachers’ Conferences in 1984 which still occur today. Over the years she has mentored many of her students to become teachers. Girls she has taught have gone on to teach at 78 different clubs from the Sunshine coast to Melbourne, from Sydney to Perth and from Canberra to Bali. Apart from being a night to celebrate Betty’s 90th year milestone, it was an opportunity for many teachers and Physie friends to catch up after a long Covid-enforced absence. The atmosphere was full of joy and the realisation of just how good it is to be back together again.
