Today we celebrate Maureen Summons, who this year will retire as Zone Head for the Central Coast Zone. Maureen began teaching in 1958 in Summer Hill, Sydney and since then has taught at many clubs including St Anne’s Strathfield, Whalan Church of England, Waratah Catholic, Wyong, Woy Woy Recreational, The Entrance and, currently, Wallarah Point. An inspiring teacher with an eye for detail, Maureen’s teams won many a prize in all ages of Championship Grade and many of her students have graced the stage at the Opera House and won national titles at Homebush. BJP thanks Maureen for decades of selfless service to our sport and for always ensuring that our competitions ran smoothly and fairly so that our members could relax and perform to their best, knowing that everything was taken care of. Julia Slape from Terrigal club will take over as Zone Head and we wish her all the best in this new role.
In Melbourne, Lana O’Reilly (Hetherington) has been appointed as Associate Teacher for the Melbourne clubs, bringing great enthusiasm and energy to the task, and we are confident that Victoria zone teachers will go from strength to strength under her direction.
As we move into another challenging year for Australians everywhere, we wish all our members and teachers the best as they launch into learning this year’s curriculum, strengthened by the resilience of surviving 2020 and united by the joys of coming together with their Physie community to dance together.
