If you’re anywhere on the south east coast of Australia today you’ll be wet and windblown! You may even have had your Physie classes cancelled due to the extreme weather. But don’t worry, you can always practice at home. Tonight is your perfect chance to do a range of stretches (see blogs in the “Be Physie Strong” series for ideas) and identify where you are flexible and where you are tight. Make a list of your tight muscles and create a plan for yourself to become more flexible in these areas before the competition season gets going in 2015.
If you’re stuck at home tonight, it’s also a perfect opportunity to reflect on your goals for physie this year. Turn off the TV and get our a pen and paper or your ipad or phone (ensuring of course that you sit up straight while you use it!) and think about what you’d like to achieve. This doesn’t just mean competition results. Maybe you’d like to be a better team member, support someone else in your class, help the teacher create some dance exits for teams, or even make some plans to bring a friend to physie. Your goal might be about your technique – is there something you’d like to really master this year – maybe a balance or a strength move, to be more flexible in a certain muscle group or to be more expressive in your dancing. Whatever it is, make a list and think about how you will achieve your goal/s. Remember…
And now that you’ve finished writing your goals, get onto youtube, watch some old dance movie clips and get inspired… for expression and ultimate body control, you just can’t beat Gene Kelly!
