Last year the call went out for 4,000 volunteer performers, aged 16 years and over, for the Commonwealth Games Opening and Closing ceremonies.  Several physie ladies put their hand up before a physie group code was created which has resulted in there being physie people in various sections of both the Opening and Closing ceremonies.  We understand that the physie code was used to group many of the physie ladies together resulting in one segment of the Opening Ceremony being comprised of approximately 40 physie girls and ladies; almost half the cast for the segment.  Will you be able to pick us on the night?!

It was only the extensive rehearsal schedule that prevented more ladies from Queensland and Northern NSW from being able to participate; already we’ve been rehearsing twice a week for a month and this increases closer to the event.  The clubs based on the Gold Coast are represented as are many Brisbane clubs, Toowoomba, northern NSW and there’s even a lady commuting from The Entrance, near Newcastle for rehearsals.

Rehearsals have been great fun.  We can’t give anything away so as to keep the show a surprise but I can reveal that choreography requiring us to step out on our right foot first, and to stand with feet together instead of turned-out, presented a great challenge to us physie gals!

We’re very excited about the ceremonies and we thought that the wider physie community, who might be watching the ceremonies on TV at home, would like to know that there are plenty of physie girls and ladies throughout.  Many also performed in the BJP125 which was ideal preparation. We look forward to being able to tell you about our section after the event!

“I have loved meeting new people who I have seen at comps but never spoken to. The rehearsals are as much fun as doing the bjp125 and can’t wait for the night to perform surrounded by physie friends old and new.”

“Besides being 2017 Qld Zone champion and placing 4th at nationals last year, this is definitely up there with my absolute greatest achievements that I will cherish and remember for the rest of my life!!!!”
Kristy, Toowoomba

“I travel from Toowoomba for each rehearsal. I am thoroughly enjoying and embracing this once in a lifetime experience! Having so much fun being involved in this amazing process and loving meeting new people and making many new BJP friends! Something so special I will remember forever!”
Andrea, Toowoomba

“Having not danced until I was 35 years old, never could I have imagined the opportunities that physie has given me.  Apart from the fun, fitness and friendships gained through physie I was privileged to perform in the BJP125 and now I find myself rehearsing for the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony!!!  My former pre-physie self could never have envisaged myself doing this! I love how physie has extended me in so many different ways.”
