Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much do lessons cost?
A: Between $5 and $10 per lesson, depending on the club.

Annual registration with BJP is $50.00 ($55 if after 15th March). This entitiles you to learn BJP syllabus, to compete in the optional BJP team and individual competitions and to have free audience entry to any junior zone competition.

Q: What do you actually do in class?
A:  Learn dances and exercise routines, get fit and have fun.

Q: How old do you have to be to start physie?
A: Usually 3 years, as long as your daughter can be happily separated from her mum for half an hour.

Q: What do you wear to class?
A: You can wear a leotard or dance pants and a top – comfy but not baggy clothing.

Q: How many times a week do you go to class?
A: Usually once a week, or twice if the club you choose offers two classes.

Q: How many students are in a class?
A: This can vary from 5 to 25, depending on the club. Larger classes often have an assistant teacher.

Q: Do you have to compete?
A: No, the competitions are completely optional.

Q: What sort of competitions are there?
A: Two kinds: individual and teams of 8 girls or ladies.

Q: What do you wear for competitions?
A: Leotards and, for older girls, fishnet tights – no dance shoes required.

Q: What about tan, hair and makeup?
A: Fake tan is banned for under 15′s and discouraged above 15 years. There are strict makeup rules for under 15′s, but not for adults. Hair is simple, stylish and feminine.

Q: How can I become a teacher?
A: If you are a BJP member 16 years or older, talk to us about becoming a teacher. We are always looking for new teachers to help at existing clubs and to start new clubs of their own.

Q: Can I transfer my registration from one club to another during the year?
A: You have until 15th March to choose your club.  After this date you cannot transfer your registration unless you have a genuine change of address that brings you closer to the club you wish to transfer to.
