Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much do lessons cost?
A: Between $4 and $8 per lesson, depending on the club. Annual registration with BJP is $45.00.

Q: What do you actually do in class?
A:  Learn dances and exercise routines, get fit and have fun.

Q: How old do you have to be to start physie?
A: Usually 3 years, as long as your daughter can be happily separated from her mum for half an hour.

Q: What do you wear to class?
A: You can wear a leotard or dance pants and a top – comfy but not baggy clothing.

Q: How many times a week do you go to class?
A: Usually once a week, or twice if the club you choose offers two classes.

Q: How many students are in a class?
A: This can vary from 5 to 25, depending on the club. Larger classes often have an assistant teacher.

Q: Do you have to compete?
A: No, the competitions are completely optional.

Q: What sort of competitions are there?
A: Two kinds: individual and teams of 8 girls or ladies.

Q: What do you wear for competitions?
A: Leotards and, for adults, fishnet tights – no dance shoes required.

Q: What about tan, hair and makeup?
A: Fake tan is banned for under 15s and discouraged above 15 years. There are strict makeup rules for under 15s, but not for adults. Hair is simple, stylish and feminine.

Q: How can I become a teacher?
A: If you are a BJP member 16 years or older, talk to us about becoming a teacher. We are always looking for new teachers to help at existing clubs and to start new clubs of their own.
